A Probabilistic Calculus of Actions

چکیده

We present a symbolic machinery that admits both probabilistic and causal information about a given domain and produces probabilistic statements about he effect of actions and the impact of observations. Thecalculus admits two types of conditioning operators: ordinary Bayes conditioning, P(y]X = z), which represents he observation X z, and causal conditioning, P(yldo(X = x)), read the probability of Y = y conditioned on holding X constant (at z) by deliberate action. Given a mixture of such observational and causal sentences, together with the topology of the causal graph, the calculus derives new conditional probabilities of both types, thus enabling one to quantify the effects of actions (and policies) from partially specified knowledge bases, such as Bayesian networks in which some conditional probabilities may not be available.

Observations and the Probabilistic Situation Calculus

In this article we propose a Probabilistic Situation Calculus logical language to represent and reason with knowledge about dynamical worlds in which actions have uncertain effects. Two essential tasks are addressed when reasoning about change in worlds: Probabilistic Temporal Projection and Probabilistic Belief Update. Uncertain effects are modeled by dividing an action into two subparts: a de...

Probabilistic Polynomial-Time Equivalence and Security Analysis

We use properties of observational equivalence for a proba-bilistic process calculus to prove an authentication property of a cryptographic protocol. The process calculus is a form of-calculus, with probabilistic scheduling instead of nondeterminism, over a term language that captures probabilistic polynomial time. The operational semantics of this calculus gives priority to communication over ...

Reasoning about Noisy Sensors and Eeectors in the Situation Calculus

Agents interacting with an incompletely known world need to be able to reason about the eeects of their actions, and to gain further information about that world they need to use sensors of some sort. Unfortunately, both the eeects of actions and the information returned from sensors are subject to error. To cope with such uncertainties , the agent can maintain probabilistic beliefs about the s...

An Asynchronous Calculus for Generative-Reactive Probabilistic Systems

We present an asynchronous calculus for describing and analyzing probabilistic distributed systems that combines, in a simple way, probabilistic internal/external choices and multi-way synchronization, by employing the generative-reactive approach of EMPAgr. Such an approach is based on a master-slave discipline which leads to a clear notion of control over action synchronizations. Moreover the...
